Pritha Srinivasan – Original Watercolors and Watermedia

Artist Statement:

The object of my watercolor and acrylic art is to allow the viewer a meditative space to linger and lose themselves in the beauty that surrounds us every day.  As an artist I strive for each painting to evoke a powerful emotional response from the viewer  through the use of luminous color.  I paint what inspires, in me, a sense of mystery and awe.  I want to convey that wonder and envelope the viewer in a bit of that very same enchantment.

My subjects range from portraits that tell a story, to animals, birds, dancers, scenery, cities, and the ocean to name a few.  In short, I paint everything that summons the viewer in for a deeper, intimate look. My artwork examines the dynamism of movement but also captures the radiance and stillness within a moment.

Artists are storytellers and I hope my artwork reflects my unique narrative through my use of meaningful personal imagery. My paintings are influenced by my cultural heritage, the local landscape, and my travels throughout the world. Poetry and literature are also a constant source of inspiration for me. The mysterious and the familiar are transformed with dreamlike color into something radiant and visionary. When you view my art, you step into that world.

Artist’s Biography:

Pritha Srinivasan is a self taught watercolor and mixed media artist who has been painting and creating art from childhood. As she grew older she chose a professional path as an licensed clinical social worker, giving her an opportunity to use art as a way to heal those that had been through traumatic experiences. Her long standing passion for drawing and painting remained constant, but confined by the limits of her day job. Only after a sudden move to Japan with her husband could she fully embrace and embark upon her own artistic journey, incorporating much of her travels into her artwork. A full time mother now, she currently resides in Maryland and is thankful for the natural beauty surrounding her. On any given day she can be found in her studio painting or planning her next artistic endeavor.
